Fiber Optic system analysis, design, and optimization play a key role towards the research and development of optical physical layer links and networks. In recent years, various types of link configurations have emerged for local area, metropolitan or regional/long haul networks. Hence, physical layer systems engineering has become a challenging task for the network equipment providers/manufacturers. Therefore, it is of vital importance to automate systems engineering tasks or calculations, that saves time and improve the product development cycle. Thus, the automated systems software tool “OFCSystemsSoft” (Optical Fiber Communication Software) developed by PRLightCOM provide a computational platform for the performance analysis of different types of fiber optic link configurations.

​Optical Fiber Communication Software (OFCSystemsSoft) is a GUI based Software, which performs systems analysis, design, and optimization of various types of NRZ based fiber optic transmission links. The systems include GbEthernet, FTTP/GPON, HFC/CATV, RoF link, DWDM/CWDM transport links. OFCSystemsSoft utilizes mathematical/analytical models to predict the system performance & it differs from other photonic simulation software in the following ways:

1. The photonic simulation software are based on the wave propagating simulation models, although yield accurate system results, but they are time consuming and computationally expensive particularly for the performance analysis of long haul DWDM transport systems.

2. The use of photonic simulation software requires good theoretical understanding and practical expertise in fiber optic communication systems in order to perform meaningful simulations and to interpret the obtained simulation results.

3. OFCSystemsSoft is cost effective and it offers a fast approach to systems engineering compared to other photonic simulation software.

OFCSystemsSoft can be installed and configured on windows, easy to learn, and provides a graphical user interface for keying the device or system parameters. It also enables the user to observe or save the results and/or graphs. Several practical fiber optic system examples have been included in the user’s guide for easy understanding of OFCSystemsSoft.
